Porch Sessions

Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Porch Sessions handles information when you use the Porch Sessions mobile app.

Last updated: April 8, 2026

Porch Sessions is an independent festival companion app, built and maintained by a small independent team. It does not require you to create an account or sign in.

This policy describes what information the app collects, how it is used, and how it may be shared.

Summary

The app collects only the limited information needed to:

  • deliver festival content in the app
  • send optional push notifications
  • understand basic app usage through pseudonymous analytics
  • store your preferences and saved festival content on your device

Porch Sessions does not collect personal data that directly identifies you.

Data is shared only with service providers necessary to operate the app (such as push notifications, analytics, and maps).

Information We Collect

1. Festival Content and App Preferences Stored On Your Device

The app stores some information locally on your device so it can load faster and remain useful if your connection is weak or temporarily unavailable. This may include:

  • festival configuration and event content
  • lineup, schedule, and porch information
  • your saved favorite bands
  • app state such as last-updated time and certain view preferences
  • a local flag showing whether push notifications were enabled
  • a locally generated pseudonymous analytics identifier

This local storage is not used to identify you by name.

2. Push Notification Data

If you allow push notifications, the app registers a device push token with a server. That token is used only to send festival notifications.

Push notification data stored may include:

  • your device's push token
  • platform information such as iOS or Android
  • registration and last-seen timestamps

Push tokens are not linked to your identity and are not used to create user profiles. Tokens that are no longer valid are removed.

3. Pseudonymous Usage Analytics

The app collects limited analytics so we can understand how it's being used and improve the festival experience.

Analytics events may include:

  • app opens
  • page views
  • favorites activity
  • external link clicks
  • festival identifier
  • page type, route, platform, and app mode
  • optional labels such as a band or link name

The app generates a pseudonymous identifier from a random value stored on your device. This identifier helps estimate usage (such as daily active users) but is not linked to your name, email address, or phone number, is not shared across apps or services, and is not combined with other data to identify you. It cannot reasonably be used to identify a specific individual and may be reset if you clear app data or reinstall the app.

Your name, email address, phone number, contacts, and payment information are not collected as part of analytics.

4. Location Information

If you use the map's "center on my location" feature, the app requests location permission from your device.

Your location is used only to center the map around you. Porch Sessions does not send your precise location to any backend server.

However, your device operating system and mapping providers (such as Mapbox) may process location and technical data independently as data controllers to provide map functionality, in accordance with their own privacy policies.

Information Not Collected

Porch Sessions does not require account creation and does not directly collect:

  • name
  • email address
  • phone number
  • mailing address
  • payment card information
  • contacts
  • photos
  • microphone recordings
  • precise location for storage on a server

Third-party services used by the app (such as mapping, analytics, or platform providers) may process technical or location data independently.

How Information Is Used

The limited information described above is used to:

  • operate and improve the app
  • show festival content and schedules
  • remember your saved favorites and app preferences
  • deliver push notifications you choose to receive
  • measure high-level usage and engagement
  • support festival operations and planning

Data Sharing

Information is shared only with third-party service providers necessary to operate the app, including:

  • push notification delivery services
  • analytics providers
  • mapping and infrastructure providers

These providers process data in accordance with their own privacy policies.

Porch Sessions does not sell personal data, build user profiles, or share data for advertising or cross-app tracking.

Third-Party Services

The app relies on a small number of third-party services to function:

We do not sell your personal information and do not engage in cross-app tracking.

Data Retention

  • Local app data remains on your device until cleared, removed by the operating system, or deleted when you uninstall the app
  • Push tokens are retained until they become invalid, are replaced, or are deleted
  • Analytics data may be retained for up to 12 months and is stored in an aggregated or pseudonymous form that is not linked to an identifiable individual

Your Choices

You can:

  • disable push notifications in your device settings
  • decline or revoke location permission
  • clear app data through your device settings
  • uninstall the app to remove locally stored data

Your Rights

Because Porch Sessions does not collect information that directly identifies you, we are generally not able to associate stored data (such as analytics identifiers or push tokens) with a specific individual.

You may still contact us with a request using the email below and the subject line "Privacy Request." We will make reasonable efforts to assist where possible.

In many cases, the most effective way to remove data is to:

  • uninstall the app (which removes all locally stored data)
  • disable push notifications
  • clear app data through your device settings

Some aggregated or anonymized analytics data cannot be linked back to you and therefore cannot be deleted individually.

Children's Privacy

Porch Sessions is not directed at children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Security

Reasonable technical measures are used to protect data, including encrypted transmission (HTTPS) and restricted system access. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

Changes To This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. When it is, the "Last updated" date at the top will be revised.
